Sam Trickett is considered by many in the poker community to be one of the best high stakes cash games players to come out of the United Kingdom, though his path to success in poker has been far from easy.

Born in East Retford, United Kingdom, Sam Trickett started playing poker in 2005 after receiving career ending knee surgery as a semi-professional football player.

The regular game he played was in his native town of Sheffield. He quickly realized that he was making more money from playing one night of poker then one week of regular work.

It was around about the same time that he also started playing $10 Sit N Go's online in a conscious effort to improve his game, and enjoyed a lot of success in these games too.

Sam was consistently beating live poker cash games and local tournaments in his area, but hungry for a bigger challenge and more money, decided it would be a good idea to enter a tournament at a Sheffield Casino, which resulted in him making the money.

It was this moment that Trickett notes was the turning point in his life and when his serious poker career truly began. He has not looked back since.

Then after an eleventh place finish at the Gala Casinos British Poker Tour (GCBPT) event in Nottingham for a £3500 payday, he contacted Julian Thew, another local player, to seek advice on becoming a full-time professional.

The two began playing in the same events and Trickett won over £20,000 between the period of August and October 2007. This boost to his bankroll was timely and enabled Sam to make his first trip to Las Vegas in December 2007 to compete in the World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic. Unfortunately, he could only manage a 102nd place finish, just two places short of the money.

Trickett didn't return to the Vegas casinos until the following year in June 2008, which as it turned out was undoubtedly his breakthrough year. Entering several events in the 2008 WSOP in Vegas, he finished fourth in the $5,000 6-max NLHE event, collecting almost a quarter of a million dollar payday for his efforts.

During 2008, he also won the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Main Event, taking home $210,000 in that tournament. Following that, he won the 888.com London Poker Circuit event for $14,000.

The best was yet to come. Sam Trickett participated in some super high buy-in tournaments at the 2011 Aussie Millions series of events in Autralia, with entry fees ranging from $100k to $250k. He won one and finished second in the other, winning nearly $3 millons in one week. He also won that same year the Partouche Poker Tour main even in Cannes for another $1.35 million.

Overall, Sam Trickett's lifetime tournament winnings now total more then $6.3 million in just over five years. Sam continues his poker success around the globe, and remains one of the UK's hottest poker exports to date. He recently won $1 million at high stake ring games in Macau to add a bit to his bankroll.
